The Bones of Joseph: From the Ancient Texts to the Modern Church

A Chat at Fireside
What a delight there is in reading this book. Rev. Jones's writing style has the sound of a personal conversation, sincere and informed, yet sprinkled with wit and charm. (As I had the pleasure of meeting this Welsh minister last May in Annapolis, I can attest to these attributes in the person whose hand I shook and sparkling eyes I appreciated!)

This book you can have "both ways." You can take is as a general read, picking up on parts of the Old Testament that have always fascinated or intrigued you. Or, you can read it paragraph by paragraph in order to more fully absorb the scholarship Rev. Jones offers.

What's offered here works well in study groups, too.

Poignant, exciting, a different slant on American history
This book gives the reader a poignant view of American history. It deals with areas that other historians refuse to talk about. This book should be on the "required reading list" for all high school and college students.

Boston and Maine: Three Colorful Decades of New England Railroading
Published in Hardcover by Trans Anglo Books (June, 1991)
Author: Robert Willoughby Jones
Average review score:

One of the Best Books on the Boston & Maine
This book is one of those books where no matter how many times you open it, you will always find something new. The photos in it are first rate and aren't mere roster shots of locomotives. The photos really tell a story of what was going on The Minuteman Route during the 1940's, 50's and 60's. The writing is not a dry history of the B&M. It tells a very entertaining story that includes the authors own experiences observing the railroad during his youth. It makes for an fun read. I highly recommend it!

Bosworth 1485: Psychology of a Battle
Published in Paperback by Tempus Publishing Ltd ()
Author: Michael K. Jones
Average review score:

Fascinating insight to new book on Bosworth
The battle of Bosworth marked the end of the reign of Richard III. Today it is one of the most intriguing medieval battles that took place in history with not enough information known.

The traditional view of where the battle took place has been a controversial point along with where the key players of the battle took place. Mr. Jones provides new insight and offers an entirely new perspective on the attitude of Richard III.

Jones overturns Shakespeares account separating the literary Richard III from the historical figure showing us a man who knew and understood medieval chivalry, battle tactics and the society in which he lived.

Jones touches on the illegitmacy of Edward IV, his similarity between his role at Bosworth and his father's role in 1441 in Pontoise and the significance of the crown that he wore into battle.

Jones relocation of the battle to the villages of Atherstone, Atterton and Fenny Drayton commands not only our attention but more research into the villages and locations in proximity to the current and traditional location.

The book is beautifully illustrated with maps showing the new and traditional sites. Jones meticulous research on Bosworth
is an important work in the continuing questions and intrigue surrounding the last battle of the last English King to fight in battle.

Brainstorms: Real Puzzles for the Real Genius
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (paper) (June, 1989)
Authors: Don Rubin and Roger Jones
Average review score:

Brilliant off-the-wall creative puzzles
Rubin is a brilliant guy whose puzzles have given me many happy hours. He can pull an absorbing puzzle from anywhere. You might have to figure out the Universal Product Code barcodes; or you might have to interpret barely-readable signatures of famous people, or country maps out of context, or photographic negatives. You might have to read some Esperanto, or get your car out of a crowded parking lot. I've read a lot of puzzle books, and this stuff is very original. For those who appreciate a devious, creative mind.
